Tory Trocchia utilizes her combined background in finance and the law to offer nuanced perspectives to clients facing complex commercial litigation.

Tory assists Gallagher’s corporate, healthcare, and nonprofit clients with contract disputes, tort claims, labor and employment matters, disputes involving medical malpractice, and estates and trusts. Her role regularly includes drafting and responding to discovery requests, complex discovery review, conducting and defending depositions, drafting and arguing motions, mediation and settlement negotiations, and trial preparation.

Prior to joining Gallagher, Tory served as a law clerk to the Honorable Douglas R. M. Nazarian of the Appellate Court of Maryland (2022-23).

Before entering the legal field, Tory spent five years at a Baltimore-based investment firm. While there, she worked in relationship management for U.S. intermediary clients and then as a member of the fixed-income investment team.

During law school Tory served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Richard D. Bennett of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland (2021); the Honorable Nancy M. Purpura of the Maryland Circuit Court for Baltimore County (2020); and the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the District of Maryland (2022).

Representative Experience

  • Representing the plaintiffs in Cynthia M. Clark ex rel. Estates of Walter F. Kacala & Helen M. Kacala, et al. v. Peter G. Angelos, et al., the largest legal malpractice class action ever reported in the United States. Shortly before class certification, the firm settled with the defendants for $57 million to the benefit of approximately 7,500 beneficiaries.
  • Defending a business owner in a contract dispute with the co-owner / former co-manager of the client’s family businesses, which ultimately settled favorably.
  • Representing real estate, healthcare, and nonprofit clients in defending against employment and housing discrimination claims.
  • Representing the family of a mesothelioma victim in their claim against Johnson & Johnson related to the victim’s lifetime use of asbestos-contaminated Johnson’s Baby Powder.
  • Representing a REIT in its tax dispute with the City of Baltimore.
  • Representing a Rwandan asylum seeker in United States immigration proceedings after she suffered severe persecution by the Rwandan government and fled her home country.

Beyond Gallagher

When not assisting clients, Tory enjoys cooking, reading fiction and memoirs, amateur photography, skiing, hiking, and DIY home improvement projects. A former athlete, she has replaced marathon running with long walks with her family and dog.
